High school senior here. With wildfires and earthquakes, decriminalizing AIDS, recognizing non binary as a gender, as well as the high cost of living and everything listed here, I've really considered leaving Cali behind once I go off to college.
I'm conflicted though. For one thing, I live in the Solano County area and went on a field trip to Solano Community College. It was really nice. The cafeteria had great food, and there was actually a very active campus life complete with a cool looking bookstore where you could buy textbooks, comics, supplies and snacks. Library was bigger than I expected too and there's a gym and full athletic gymnasium.
Another part I liked was what they offered in terms of the physical education classes for kinesiology. I'm a martial artist (I practice Judo) and they actually offered Judo classes as courses, including an active Judo club that competes in local tournaments. Since this would be part of my tuition, I could then pay to start studying Karate on the side.
Another thing I should mention is my desired career, which is becoming a game warden . The California Department of Fish and Wildlife seems to be based in Sacramento, and thus isn't far from UC Davis, the college I plan to transfer to. I figured this would be helpful in perhaps trying to get an internship, since a game warden job is a pretty competitive career.
I bring all this because this is why I'm conflicted about leaving here. On one hand, it definitely has it's problems. But on the other, it's almost as if I have the perfect setup for where I want to go in life in terms of pursuing my intersts (making friends and pursuing martial arts), my education (getting an associates in criminal justice and a bachelor's in a biological science, required for game wardens) and ultimately becoming a wildlife officer.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I apologize if this comes off as rambling, I'm just a 17 year old trying to figure out the rest of their life.
