I think most of us know what a bidet is, but not a lot of us have actually used or even seen one. It's very uncommon to find one in the U.S. Why? I don't know, but I definitely would not want to use a public bidet for several reasons, mainly germs and how they work.
I've read that they became more common in areas where toilet paper in the plumbing would cause issues so they just used water. I'm not sure of the validity of that, though.
