This is a good idea, however we should be cautious to not split them up too much. If /v/ funny gets split into 10 subverses it will become difficult to handle, I think.

This was a problem with a lot of technology subreddits- for example, /r/Android banned anything remotely related to tech help and delegated it to mostly dead subs.

I saw this mostly in makeup subs, every person with a dark skintone asking for advice would sooner or later be sent over to r/brownbeauties, which was not very active.
