Be the change you wish to see!

Anyway, block /v/funny and /v/gifs. /v/all is flooded with posts from a few of the larger subs; mainly those two. Block them and Voat starts to look more like the days before the reddit exodus; the Voat with quality content.

I'd prefer to be able to downvoat those submissions on funny and gifs, but I'm still a ways from the CCP I need. Soon, I suppose.

Seriously. /v/funny here is a joke.

I have an idea, what if instead of blocking these subreddits, we post quality content in them?

Isn't that the point?

We have a massive amount of people checking out voat for the first time. It would be hugely beneficial if they saw great content. Specially compared to the bad image it gives that all they are seeing are jokes about how voat sometimes goes offline.

I'd like to see some rules and moderation in place. Voat is anti-censorship at a site level, but that doesn't mean that individual subverses can't have rules to guide content.

The reality is that most people will upvoat or downvoat without ever looking at what subverse something was posted to. If there is no guidance as to the type of content that is acceptable for each subverse, they'll all devolve into the exact same slop.

Personally, I'd like to see things get more specialized. Someone could make a subverse called FunnyScreenshots where funny social media content went, and a "no screenshot" rule in /v/funny. A meme subverse and a "no meme" rule in funny. a MRW subverse and a no MRW rule in funny. AskVoat could be for open-ended discussions only, and then have a different subverse for closed-ended questions.

Those are just some examples. And yes, it does sound kind of like what Reddit did, but it's something they started to do right, at least in some places. Their "Mildly Interesting" subreddit was one of the most well-moderated subs I had seen, where they had rules allowing one type of content and they enforced them.

This is a good idea, however we should be cautious to not split them up too much. If /v/ funny gets split into 10 subverses it will become difficult to handle, I think.

It is because everyone is circle jerking for their 20 CCP Even though they don't realize that are getting SCP instead of CCP As the community grows this will fade away. In the meantime instead of complaining about the content go out and find better content!

Its funny because it isn't even that hard...

Really? I'm struggling with it. The subvoats I like or whatever they're called aren't very popular.

I'll take things that a man never wants to hear directed at them for 400 Alex.

For everyone else like me who's new and didn't know what these were, it's a good idea to read the FAQs -->

Block /v/gifs and /v/funny. That's really the only place I've seen it and its 90% of the content there.

Brilliant idea. I just did this and it's much improved now, thanks!

Complains about meta posts reaching the front page, makes a meta post reaching the front page

I could pull up my Facebook feed and get better content than what I'm seeing right now.

I'm hoping the stupid shit will die down once the whole "look at me I'm using a new website" thing wears off.

They aren't even comments though, its just imgur spam. I don't think they realize they need to comment, not just submit pictures.

Browse new posts on /v/all or look for some good subverses, the shitty content only gets posted on the default subs, and it only gets upvoated because the defaults are the only subverses with a lot of subscribers.

Yeah, I need to spend more time digging in. My problem is i fire up a tab and start to head to reddit and then remember and head here but the site is either down or full of garbage MRW posts. Sometimes you just need a quick 5 minute fix of content and when you're greeted with nonsense its frustrating.

A lot of subverses here have the same names as ones on reddit, so you can add your favourites from there. Use this page to search for subverses. There's also /v/newsubverses and /v/promote. I made /v/bestofliveleak the other day if you want to check that out.

I think this is kind of a little side effect of having thresh-holds that must be met in order to lurk... a lot of people are not really creative enough to truly create good original content (myself admittedly included here...) so they will continue to reach for the low-hanging fruits to meet those marks. Not saying they are a bad thing. forcing contribution in order to express opinion, I think, is kinda great, but I think we will need to ride out he wave until the bulk of the newcomers get enough "internet points" to go back to lurking...
