There's definitely some fucky business going on, but I generally feel like the satellites and data we're getting back is genuine.

They probably edit out evidence of aliens or make fake satellites to get secret military equipment in the air, but the vast majority of people who work in space fields are pretty smart and genuinely love space.

If the whole thing is a sham, I seriously doubt they'd be able to keep such a huge and publicly existing hoax going for this long.

I feel you, but I dunno. With all the recources they have access to.... I dunno if it would be a stretch to say it's all a sham. Look at all the 'theoretical' phycisist academia employs.

That's actually the evidence I'd use to say most of the data is genuine. Scientists love to be the first ones to figure something out, and they have big fat mouths. Scientists gossip like nobody's business. If one of them did find evidence that some data feed is fake they'd be all over it.

Also go take a look at stuff like the LASCO telescope feeds - those are live feeds of a satellite watching the sun every hour, and you can go grab a medium power telescope with a solar filter to confirm it for yourself that those sunspots really are there.

The closer you let people get to the raw data, the harder it is to fake something. NASA releases a lot of raw data.
