I quite like it here, it's less crowded than the other place and i feel more comfortable posting in threads without the fear of being downvoted into oblivion

The amount of pointless downvoting I witnessed in the other place...

i mean, we all understand that sometimes voting something down is necessary (if it's, f.e., not in any way useful for the conversation at hand) but it really devolved into "i don't like what you are saying so I'm gonna downvote this comment and every other comment you have made", and that's simply no way to have a conversation/community.

People never understood that downvoting is supposed to be reserved for comments that do not contribute to the discussion. More often than not, people downvoted based on opinion.

It's nice to know that if I want to comment on a post a couple hours old, that there's a chance it'll be read. It won't just automatically go into the "load more comments" abyss.

Agreed. I've posted more in the past 15 hours of having an account here than I have in the past 7 months over on that other site. I'm not as scared to post here and I'm not really sure why that is

probably because the system with the 100 ccp so you can down-voteis a bit of a troll deterrent... if your only pleasure in life is to down-vote people you'll probably find easier sites where you don't have to invest as much time to be able to do so...

I do like the smallness. it's made it interesting so far.

I just I could have brought over all my sweet, sweet karma. Years of work and nothing to show for it, yet.

I know it's only a small gesture, but here, have an upvoat and start anew ;-)

Literally started an account today. Truthfully, its much more similar to Reddit than I expected. I think I'm going to have to try out the voting system before making any opinions, but I like the idea of people having to post to have the ability to down "voat" content..

I can't wait to be able to push that down arrow on your anime ass. 99 more to go!

It's got potential. The people here do seem friendly and the signal-to-noise seems a little better here than on Reddit.

The downside is that there's not a lot of content here yet -- most of my subscribed subs on Reddit either don't exist here or are sparsely posted. Everything's picked up speed over the last few days, of course, so I look forward to seeing what the site looks like a month or two from now.

Completely agree, but it'll pick up. I just hope as I commented above, that this doesn't evolve into what Reddit is now in terms of the noise and nonsense.

Decent I just made an account, kinda of bummed that I have to start from nothing upvote wise.

I thing I'm going to grind my way out of 0 upvoats. I am pretty bad-ass with an angle grinder.

I'm sorry for your loss :( 10k is huge, though, so congratulations!

There's that. But hey, you get to be part of a site that's in the early stages. Take control of the uh... Naruto subverse and make it all snazzy.

That just seems super on the nose but I guess I could do that.

Great, but I'd really really really love if we could stop with the reddit loathing.

People are like jilted lovers, right?

[–] ShartAttack 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

Agreed, it just saddens me. I tapered off on reddit- because everyone was jilted with regard to something.

This will take some time, its a problem with humans more than a problem with either site. When reddit first got the Digg community all anyone wanted to talk about was Digg. And Digg never got as big as Reddit. This is what everyone wants to talk about. This is something we all have in common. Because it is a common denominator it will be a latge part of the front page for awhile, just like funny memes. Unless there is code in place to deal change there will be little change.

Much more of a Reddit clone than I was expecting. Not bad since I liked Reddit until the last year or so, but it makes me wonder how long it will take to have the same issues. I do love having the vote counters back. Hopefully the best parts of Reddit throughout the years will stick around on Voat. If so I'll stick around as well.

Not as racist or as sexist as I was promised. I want a refund! /s

It's a bit sparse, but I'm trying to contribute and change that.

I am hoping the level of "Reddit is doing this" submissions drops off.. But I like the look, and the night-mode is awesome.. Having to contribute to be able to downvoat, and now I've learned upvoat to a certain extent as well, is making me want to actually voice my opinions more without them being mostly buried below a shitload of other comments.. It was cool to see the page finally load today after trying to get on here the last few days..
