There's a big difference between a legitimate court handing down a sentence within the framework of constitutional rights and Sharia courts. I don't endorse hanging gays, apostates, blasphemers... etc. I do endorse hanging murderers, rapists, and pedophiles who have received a fair trial by a jury of their peers. Part of the problem as I see it is that people have detached consequence from action. People tend to identify more strongly with the perpetrators than the victims (quick name a serial killer.... name one of their victims). Public hanging reminds the people that if you break the laws of this nation you will be held accountable. Lethal injection is extraordinarily expensive and a bit of a farce, the electric chair is absolutely inhumane, gas has the same issues as lethal injection for the most part. The methods of execution currently employed are meant to humanize the person that has dehumanized someone else. They aren't entitled to this consideration IMO. Hanging is cheep and reminds people in a very visceral way that you will be held accountable for your crimes in this country once again under the framework of the constitution.

Imagine how effective public electrocutions would be. This out of public site execution is horse shit. Remind people that we have laws and society for a reason.

I don't like electrocutions. They are notoriously ineffective and often require extended periods of electrocution with stoppages to check if the person is actually dead followed by repeated electrocutions. I do agree that out of public site execution is bull shit. You take a life (which we all collectively do as part of the citizenry) you should watch. A reminder that our laws mean something is never a bad thing.

I don't like the concept of hunting people regardless of how much they deserve it. Hanging is much more neutral in this regard. You are shaming them but you aren't going out of your way to do so if that makes sense.
Also what if the killer gets the best of the raffle winner?
