Here's the other thing (sorry for going on about it), if users don't act, it'll deteriorate fast. When you see garbage, shine a spotlight on it. Don't just downvoat it (if you can), let them know they're being bad. It's the only way to fight the downward quality pressure.

I think we might want to formalize and emphasize the Voat equivalent of reddiquette, and also refer to that as we upvote/downvote.

Fully agreed. Something that has been needed for a while now in my opinion.

First comment... Can downward quality pressure not be a snarky remark saying "shitpost"? It doesn't give any indication as to why the context or comment is bad.

As you said," quality" downward pressure

Yeah, I can generally agree with that. While I suppose that kind of slang might have its place in right the circles with the right context, when one is being critical of others or their work it's important to not have them think you're an ass hole while doing it for effectiveness' sake.

This. On Reddit, several years ago it started out this way. It was even on the sidebar, but got pushed out after more people came in. There will be negativity, but if we foster the right community, and enforce good behavior, then we'll have something people enjoy.

I definitely can't disagree that this place is much more relaxed than reddit..but so far in my time I can only see people who are indeed the ones that want to keep the peace..and also, that people with a toxic nature will eventually start flooding in. Especially if things end up getting boring over there. Only a matter of time when we see this happen..just hope we community based users will be able to keep Voat in the condition it is now..sustaining its legitimate community feel and aesthitic, will be our key to success in fighting the trolls. ...people with a toxic nature will eventually start flooding in...

Not only can we not stop this, we shouldn't even try. While surely many of them are trolls, a good many are also just people (kids?) who don't realize they're breaking the thing they like to use. They erroneously think that is how they're supposed to use it and all they need is for someone to tell them otherwise.
