Joseph Smith L.Ron Hubbard was just a fictional writer that decided to see how gullible people are, and Bringham-Yung David Miscavige had him killed and took over. They don't even follow the Bible, they prioritize Joseph Smiths L.Ron Hubbard's bestselling mediocre Sci-Fi books

The difference is most Mormons I've met have been great people, and Scientologists are generally crackpots.

Seriously, if I were to judge faiths based on their flock, #1 Mormon, #2 Sikh, #3 Christians...

You're right, they don't worship Moroni. They worship Joseph Smith. This image pretty much shows the hierarchy of Mormon worship.

The guy who married a 14 year old and women who were already married to people he sent out of the country.

That's right. They worship a fucking pedo.

Moroni is nothing more than another high ranked angel of God. Also Mormon is not Moroni. There were tons of records of people called Nephites and Lamanites. Record that spanned hundreds of years. God told Mormon to condense or abbreviate the records into one book later called "The Book of Mormon." God then told Mormon to bury them in a hill. A couple decades ago, God told Joseph Smith to dig them up and said it is to be paired along side the bible. We worship the same Christian God as everyone else. Mormon was a man. Joseph Smith was a man. Moroni is an angel.

One reason (via Infogalactic):

Mormonism is the predominant religious tradition of the Latter Day Saint movement of Restorationist Christianity.

That said, it takes an extra level of stupidity and gullibility to be a Mormon. Founded, as you said, by a known con artist, believers willingly accept the idea that an angel guided Smith to a set of golden tablets that only he could see and touch, and these tablets told of a tribe of Israelites who somehow made it to America and were visited by Jesus after his crucifixion.
Aliens using volcanoes and nukes to populate Earth is only slightly less believable.

wouldnt a set of golden tablets large enough to hold all the information he "translated" from them be too heavy to carry?

[–] im_the_dude_man 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

Don't forget, the tablets were conveniently located under a giant rock that was moved out of the way just for Joseph Smith and then put right back into place.

Not just written like, Joseph literally chief sections from the Bible into the book of Mormon including the translator notes.

[–] Aaaron 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

Well, why did the Angels speak to Joseph Smith in Middle English?

You hit the nail on the head there. It was done to make it sound more official because the vast majority of people swooped up by that cult were so ignorant, they probably thought King James Version was the original version of the bible. I've actually met Jehovah's Witnesses that thought this too. It's near-irrefutable proof that Mormonism is pure bullshit. I mean, there's plenty of proof otherwise, but it's amazing how much that one trait says about it.

That's the best he could come up with and they believed him anyway.
Imagine all those parents forcing and scolding their kids to believe the words of a narcissistic psycho who wrote his own name into the scriptures.

The proper name of the church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. We worship Jesus as our Savior the same as any other Christian.

Joseph Smith, Mormon, and Moroni were all prophets. We honor them. We revere them. We do not worship them nor would they want us to even as Paul and Barnabas refused to be worshiped in the city of Lystra.

One of the best evidences is in our hymnal. Our hymnal has 341 hymns. Joseph Smith, our prophet of the Restoration is mentioned in 7 of them. The hymn "Praise to the Man" is the closest we come to worship but even then, the hymn points outs that Joseph Smith is only worthy of praise for being the Lord's servant. Moroni barely gets mentioned at all. I think he gets 2 hymns? The vast majority of the hymns (except a few patriotic songs like The Star-Spangled Banner) are devoted to God the Father and his Son, Jesus Christ.

No joke, this episode is pretty accurate on Mormon theology/doctrine.

http://southpark.cc.com/full-episodes/s07e12-all-about-mormons

If you're a member of the Mormon church and would like to argue points, I'm happy to.

I'd suggest starting with checking out The CES Letter here

And get back to me with counter arguments.

“If we have the truth, it cannot be harmed by investigation.

If we have not the truth, it ought to be harmed.”

– President J. Reuben Clark –

Biggest concerns with BoM/PoGP/D&C;

Horses, cattle, oxen, sheep, swine, goats, elephants, wheels, chariots, wheat, silk, steel, and iron did not exist in pre-Columbian America during Book of Mormon times.

-Why are these things mentioned in the Book of Mormon as being made available in the Americas between 2200 BC - 421 AD?

We read about two major war battles that took place at the Hill Cumorah (Ramah to the Jaredites) that numbered in the deaths of at least 2,000,000 people. No bones, hair, chariots, swords, armor, or any other evidence found whatsoever.

-Where are the mass burial grounds of millions dead from battle?

No Native Americans share any DNA resemblance to Israel/Hebrew ancestors. DNA analysis has concluded that Native American Indians do not originate from the Middle East or from Israelites but rather from Asia. Why did the Church change the following section of the introduction page in the 2006 edition Book of Mormon shortly after the DNA results were released?

“…the Lamanites, and they are the principal ancestors of the American Indians”

to

“…the Lamanites, and they are among the ancestors of the American Indians”

Basically, the LDS church has flip flopped their way into staying on course with modern public opinion when required.

Members do not know their own history from the 'Mormon Doctrine', to 'Journal of Discourses', or other recordings of their past presidents who were supposed to be the prophet of God on the earth, speaking for the Lord, things like...

Brigham Young taught the doctrine that polygamy is required for exaltation:

"The only men who become Gods, even the Sons of God, are those who enter into polygamy."

– Journal of Discourses 11:269

Several other prophets after Young, including Taylor, Woodruff, Snow, and Joseph F. Smith gave similar teachings that the New and Everlasting Covenant of plural marriage was doctrinal and essential for exaltation.

It’s even in the scriptures. Doctrine & Covenants 132:4:

“For behold, I reveal unto you a new and an everlasting covenant; and if ye abide not that covenant, then are ye damned; for no one can reject this covenant and be permitted to enter into my glory.”

Finally, I'd like to point out some funny consistencies from what the BoM's religion's base religious text (Christianity's Bible [NIV])...

2 Corinthians 11:14 -

"And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light."

Galatians 1:8 -

"But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse!"

Now LDS members can argue all day about the test of 1 John 4:2-3, but the LDS Jesus isn't the same Jesus of the bible once you examine doctrine.

Anyway, moving on to Deuteronomy 13:5 regarding false prophets...

"That prophet or dreamer must be put to death for inciting rebellion against the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt and redeemed you from the land of slavery. That prophet or dreamer tried to turn you from the way the Lord your God commanded you to follow. You must purge the evil from among you."

I don't think I need to point out all the false prophecies of Joseph Smith, but hey- even if there was one, he was a false prophet.

How did he die?

He was shot to death in a jail.

Any LDS members reading this, seriously- please go read the CES letter.

I've done more research on this than I'd care to admit. And even though I thankfully wasn't raised in the church, I've seen the devastating effects this church has had on many families. If anything, you stand to gain more knowledge on your church history & how to deal with people like me.

"we could assume that the Biblical passages were revealed to Joseph during the translation process in a format almost identical with similar passages in the King James Bible."

The mental gymnastics it takes to believe that must be exhausting

The US is the only place in the world that considers Mormonism a religion. Talk to anybody else overseas and they'll refer to it as "that one cult in Utah."

Mormons have absolutely no self-awareness with respect to how fucking ridiculous they look to others.

So walking around in shirt and trousers is ridiculous, but young children being made to wear skirts above their knees is acceptable? Society maybe has its priorities all muddled up I reckon.

I didn't say, or even imply, anything about dress in my comment. And I have no idea what you're talking about anyway.
