Stick to the books. Generate interests and talents (read, learn to play an instrument, learn to code, or whatever interests you). If you have specific interests it'll be easier later in life to find people that share those interests. It's hard to have a sense of perspective but high school isn't that big of a deal. It's something everyone goes through and later in life you won't give it much thought if you have interests and goals to pursue.

I was at a bar back in my hometown when I was visiting family recently and I overheard one of the guys in there telling the bartender how he was a big deal back in high school. It took me a minute to realize who he was but when I figured it out I had to laugh. He was definitely with the in crowd in high school but now, 15 years later, he was just another drunk at the local bar. So I have to agree with this comment. Don't put too much weight in the people or status in high school. 4 years goes by quick and you have plenty of time to make much better friends in the future who share your same interests.

I do not mind because they do not matter. The only time they matter is if I am in a fight (fights are not just physical) with them.
That is a rule I have applied for some time in my life. If someone does not directly affect your health, income, or property and they are tards, ignore them.
Secondly you are attempting to socialize at a time when hormones are raging. People are going to be retarded.
Third, do not claim autism holds you back and pick up a victim mentality. Once you do that, you will be miserable for the rest of your life. Unless you are in prison or the military, you make or break your life. You are the one in control, the moment you give up control, you are in for a bad time.
Fourth, hit the gym or do body weight exercises. Shit works, thus the reason people repeat it. Cut soda out of your life if you drink it. The chemical combination makes you excitable and erratic.
Fifth is to watch this. It is a pretty good explanation on how to organize and value the fucks you give. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GwRzjFQa_Og

Was going to say something similar, specially around High School age, a cool aloofness works better than earnest friendliness.

Be really glad that I avoided making friends with an asshole who would waste my time and wreck my life.

Stay busy with your own shit so you have no time to reflect on all the assholes you've met.

People suck. I hate all of them, out of the box. Make them prove themselves before you let them in.
If you really are looking for a connection, go do the 2-3 things you love to do the most, but do them where others do them. If that is yoga, go to an advanced yoga class. If it is Frisbee golf, go to the best frisbee golf course near you. If it is reading history, go to the local archives of the newspaper or library or museum.
Instead of randomly trying to find a friend with similar interests, go to where people with those interests are easiest to find. After all, youaren;t going to find a person who is really into baseball and hanging out at dance clubs but hates history in the microcfiche room at the local newspaper.

Thanks. So if I want to find other anime/manga fans I should go to that section of the bookstore/library?

Yep. And hang out there for a few hours, reading. People will notice, and you will notice others perusing.
Strike up a conversation if you want. "Did you like that one?" "Did you read THIS one?" etc. etc. if someone is looking at the ones you like a lot.
