Christianity isn't supposed to make total logical sense. It is more like an allegory for certain ideas that are more easily conveyed to most people in the language of religion.

I mean if you read any one of Matthew, Mark, Luke or John, and get the brief, edited version of Jesus' life, you'll see he clearly is asked Why does he use Parables, and he clearly, and without parables, explains why.
Mainly because people hated him, even at the time, rejected his message, and in general acted like liberals today. So he had to wrap knowledge in allegory.
Plus it's extremely difficult to teach "Principles" when all these people want are "Rules".
