Active in clubs, had friends in just about every clique, constantly hanging out with people after school and cutting classes to go on adventures downtown. Pulling pranks that people remembered even after I left.
Second highschool, hell no. I was the outsider from the start and never made friends. Which is fine because I just started working instead.
I was in one school system from 2nd grade to 10th grade. A suburb near Detroit. Not especially ghetto but not affluent either.
I just gradually met people in my city over time. The district had 3 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, and 1 highschool.
So growing up I made friends all over town. After school we would just wander the neighborhoods getting in trouble and what not. By the time I got to highschool it was like I was already acquainted with most people and a lot of them were my friends.
Then my got a new job in Texas. She didn't tell me she was looking or anything just kept it a secret. She stopped me one day after school as I was about to head to the college town near by to meet with some friends at an arcade.
"I got a job in Texas. We are moving at the end of the school year. You can either move to Texas with me... Or I already talked to your Dad and he said you can live with him in Iowa if you want."
I was so surprised and mad that I immediately chose my Dad. Said bye to all of my friends and moved 3 weeks later.
First thing my Dad did was get me a drivers license and a car, then he had me get a job to pay him back for the car. On weekends I helped him on his farm. By the time the school year started I was in full loner mode. I missed my friends and I started Junior year not knowing anyone. And to top it off the curriculums between schools were so different that I ended up in a lot of freshmen level classes rather than junior. So my classmates thought I was weird old freshmen that no one had ever seen before. This was not the kind of town people moved in to.
I spent the school year doing the minimum amount of work to skate by, while working after class and helping my dad on weekends. I didn't care to make friends. During the summer of Junior year I got a seasonal job in Michigan so I wasn't even in Iowa at that time which made it even stranger to go back to school there as a senior.
Then I graduated a semester early so I just kept working, helping my dad, and getting in shape because I decided to join the service.
So I gave up friends but learned a lot about work ethic and self reliance I suppose.
