Weird, because as far as I know, LCDs mostly consume electricity via their backlighting, which would mean that unless you reduced your screen brightness you should use the same electric power. LED displays on the other hand could have a brightness setting for each pixel, since the pixels themselves are made of LEDs, meaning that when the screen displays a black pixel, this group of LED "simply" isn't receiving any electricity.

(PS: Your monitor better be humongous, because a normal one sure as hell isn't using kiloWatts. ;) )
