As for the rest, you're not talking about affirmative action. You are talking about government subsidized loans. Those are different ideas. There's a difference between helping low-income families pay for schooling (a system which is STILL rife with fraud, waste, and abuse) and determining which students fill available class spots based on arbitrary criteria.
To get things straight - government subsidized loans are something I (mostly) support, filling classes based on arbitrary criteria is something I universally condemn.

I've given up on that a while ago. I'm emigrating to the Netherlands later this year. Hopefully things will look different there.
