Sounds like you care more about what people think of what you have to say, than what you have to say.

That's solid insight. I'd tip you in bitcoin if that feature was available here. I'm all out of upvoats, so you will have to settle for this comment.

Right on.

I'm with DjangoRed on this one, but it's not because I care what other people think. Downvotes on Reddit were frequently used to silence/hide any dissenting opinions. Rather than the most constructive and best comments being at the top of threads, it was those comments that agreed with whatever circlejerk was currently possible. Aside from this discouraging people from participating in discussions (I mean, what's the point when your thoughts will be buried), it also sucked as someone coming to the comments looking for discussion (half the time sorting by Controversial provided better discussion than sorting by Top, but then you had to read through all the crap as well).

Your point is super valid. This might be the best discussion on Voat right now. Sock puppets make other forums worse. It's so sad to be out of upvoats.
How many times have you seen, "This," as the top comment on other sites? "This" is fucking stupid.

I think It would make substantially more sense if there was simply an "agree/disagree" button instead of a downvote button. Because right now that's what it's used for anyway. Perhaps your reply is sorted into one of two categories based on whether you agreed or not(both of which remain visible).

I somewhat agree because I say what I'm going to say and it doesn't really bother me if the internet points are positive or negative. What does bother me is when a well thought out and reasoned post is buried (mine or anyone else's) because a few shitheads are "offended" but don't even bother with a reply to refute or disagree. I don't care if you downvote someone, but at least say why (if someone else hasn't already made your point).

downvotes are how keyboard warrior faggots censor dissenting views. this is what we have to fight against.

downvotes are a ware to censor unpopular opinions by removing them from the public eye. they should exist only to curate content

Censorship applies heavily to niche subs. Votes and Voats, up or down, can be bought. They are bought. The front page of any sub is prime real estate. Real estate on a community forum should be owned by those that deserve it, not the ones that pay for it. That's what advertising is for.
