It's illegal and it's a blight on the community. If this is supposed to grow, we can't have things like this.

I agree. Atko specifically says that if its illegal in his country, then its not allowed on the site. It's basically CP at this point, because the purpose of those images is sexual gratification. It should be banned. Besides, is that the kind of shit we really want on this website, specially so early on?

People who defend it as free speech confuse me. It's not free speech if you're just posting those photos. That is an act, an act of breaking the law. You have the right to say that it's ok, or that you enjoy that kind of thing, but you have no right to then perform those acts. In the same way that you are allowed to say racist things, but you are not allowed to then perform racist actions.

Edit: A looooot of people defending CP here. While thefappening was more of an issue of preventing Atko being sued out the ass and in preparation for revenge porn laws (fair enough but kind of shitty), but CP and psudo CP needs to be stamped out.

This is the perfect explanation of this problem.

If it's illegal, report it. If not, ignore it. It doesn't have to be rocket science.

The issue is that the mods there don't appear to be on the ball. If the sub isn't responsibly moderated it should be shut down. This goes for any sub, really.

Edit: to be clear I am not talking about this from a legal standpoint only worth only how to deal with the sub itself.

It doesn't have to be illegal to be creepy as fuck. Do you really want to associate with a site that encourages exploitative pics of underaged girls? Even if it's not technically CP there's a lot of borderline stuff that shouldn't be allowed.

The entire site could be shut down due to child porn. There is no place for it, and it should always be condemned.

If it is illegal, the post should be removed, the user banned, and the authorities alerted.

How is that not the standard operating procedure?

Before talking about banning subverses, if people are posting CP, why isn't anyone calling the cops?

This is literally why there are moderators. If they aren't doing this, why are they here?

[–] Rhoyne 3 points 12 points (+15|-3) ago

It's not about moral damnation, it's about legality. Pictures of murder victims aren't illegal. There is no way this site is going to be able to continue to exist if it hosts blatantly illegal content, especially since it is currently under so much scrutiny with people reporting it left and right.

[–] MrPim 0 points 8 points (+8|-0) ago

At that point it becomes someones full time job to monitor those subs. The mods there are apparently unable to monitor their own spaces. So if they cannot or will not police their selves, I think they should be banned.

Agreed. Voat is in its infancy and its legitimacy needs to be reaffirmed in its earliest stages. Right now, criticisms of Voat amount to: the cancer of reddit went to Voat. Voat's long-term survival is much more important than some creep's hardon for underage girls and boys.

Thank you. This post seems to be quickly turning into a circlejerk of what is and isn't free speech. If it is illegal report, if it isn't ignore it. That being said I don't know what the laws are in Atko's country so if someone wants to clear that up then we can make some progress on this issue.

Agreed. Like I told OP, there needs to be proof one way or another that they're under 18. Just because they "look" under 18 doesn't mean they are.

That said, those that are under 18 should be removed, but I don't think the entire subverse should be removed.

[–] dali 1 points 4 points (+5|-1) ago

If someone doesn't look of age, or if age is ambiguous then the burden of proof is on the person/people/company providing the images. It isn't upto everyone else to try and find information to prove it one way or another.

That is pretty universal, true for most countries of the world.

That is all that should be done.

This is the best way to do it. Report it to mod, substantiate your complain and provide proof. If no action was taken, report to admin or atko.

Sounds like a great theory, just like how jailbait just being for legal pics sounded like a great theory. In practise, a lot of the pictures have been there for 20 days or more (didn't go further than that and I didn't check the majority of links). Meaning that hundreds of people have seen and jerked off to those pics (including probably the mods), with no one having reported them or deleted them. The only reason I reported them now is because I wanted to see if the side that defended JB with your theory had any validity: it doesn't. No one is patrolling those subs, nobody is reporting anything to anyone. It doesn't work. Unless we ban it, there will be a ton of kiddie porn posted there with no one doing anything about it.

Unless of course, you volunteer to patrol those subs and click on every link that is being posted there. The only people doing that are the people that have their dicks out, you know that just as well as I do - so quit that bullshit excuse.

Edit: I like how the person below me got upvoted (and I downvoted), while I completely dismantled his argument. I had reported it here: https://report.cybertip.org/index.htm, and the second part of his argument doesn't make any sense whatsoever. The people responsible for said distribution of point probably just voted based on what our stances are. They saw mine, knowing that I am against CP and downvoted, and saw a long post with many quotations and thought it must be good so upvoted it. Sigh.

I just posted about this in /v/voat, but I'll say it again here: As of July 2014, 18 is the age for child porn in Switzerland. the /v/jailbait sidebar no longer mentions 16 year olds, but they also don't specify 18. That should be very visibly displayed on their sub, and I also think /u/Atko or the mods should remove any and all posts featuring nudity that were made while the sidebar had a 16 year old age listed.

Atko should also read up on child porn regulations and tools to prevent child porn. I'm sure there are materials out there that help websites police themselves and fight child porn. He can't sit idly by, he needs to take an active stance against this. This isn't like other laws. You can host illegally downloaded music all you want and nobody will care. But even a hint of child porn will attract government agencies, it will get Paypal to shut down your account, it will get you booted off of a German web server, etc. Google and Bing remove sites from their search results if they have child porn. And a lot of people will avoid having anything to do with a site that doesn't have strict rules and enforcement mechanisms in place to deal with this. Atko should either personally or appoint people to police /v/jailbait and related subs. Don't trust the mods or users, because I doubt the mods and users of a jailbait sub are going to care.

EDIT: The more I think about it, I don't think a jailbait sub should be allowed to have any nudity. I understand creepshots of 15 year old girls is a gray area and is technical legal if they're not naked. I personally would like to see it all banned, but whatever. But even if jailbait doesn't allow nude pictures under 18, the fact is this: A subverse encourages users to post sexualized pictures of young girls, while also allowing them to post naked pictures of girls who are of unknown age as long as the poster claims the girl is at least 18. We have a sub full of 13 year old girls in bikinis side-by-side with naked girls of unknown age that we're hoping are 18. That's not something this site can tolerate.

I don't think a jailbait sub should be allowed to have any nudity.

The answer right here. If this isn't addressed, Voat isn't long for this Earth. You may have the free speach high ground, but that won't buy you shit once the govt. steps in and seizes the domain and servers.

And then there is the question if nudity is the one requirement for porn. Depending on your definition of pornography (or maybe the Swiss definition) just banning nudity in a jail bait sub is not enough.

The admins have said not to report it to them, but to report it to the police. The admins don't give a shit.

"If you notice any illegal content in any sub on voat, please, by all means, notify your local police department. Only authorities can decide what is and what isn't legal. We don't host any illegal content, in fact, voat hosts only text and 70px × 70px thumbnails (everything in that sub resides on youtube, imgur and other third party websites). We don't want any illegal content and we will comply with official requests from authorities regarding removal of illegal content. While we don't necessarily agree with everything users submit to voat, we simply don't have the resources to play whack-a-mole and we don't want to be the ones making the calls on what constitutes legal vs illegal. Let the authorities decide." - Atko

They do give a shit - it is apparent in the quote you posted. They also recognize that their personal ideas on what is within the law and what is illegal don't mean jack shit. If they think it is legal for the images to be linked here then whichever authorities believe otherwise still have the final say. If they believe it is illegal and ban it and everyone, then they are going against their ideals based on their meaningless subjective view of what is right and what is wrong. Saying "report it to the authorities" is the proper thing to say and the appropriate coarse of action.

If you are in the United States and you believe that this qualifies as breaking the law then report it to the FBI, I'm sure they already know. I hate to say it, but this is all some serious social justice warrior shit. Trying to harass a site by reporting to their host, revenue source, etc? Some other SJW's from the chans who like to prance around calling themselves Anonymous released a bunch of information on users on the Darknet who traded CP - scattered the cockroaches - and (pointed out by a security analyst) could have interfered with an ongoing investigation into it.

Just like the bombing in Boston, everyone wanted to be a hero and wanted to find the masked villains and report them to the FBI by finding them in a few images with a scant amount of information. Go ahead and report this site, report the subverse, and report the users posting. But in all of this bandwagoning, (what looks like) brigading, and irrationality don't forget that everything you think, see, and feel about it is only surface deep. The authorities might not want it down. They might see it as a barely legal or illegal gateway with a few users who could lead them into something deeper. Who fucking knows - not us.

Point is "admins don't give a shit" is a bit of a dumb thing to say. And these "authorities" definitely give a shit about pedo rings - except for the ones in Hollywood. I would, however, amend Atko's post: "Let the authorities decide, and act appropriately. -Atko - Michael Scott -PM-me-your-Pussy

No. What he's saying is go through the correct official channels to do it.

He isn't/doesn't want to be in the position of having to decide whether each reported post is illegal or not.

Threads like this are perfect for SJWs and White Knights to come and circle jerk.

People should realize that NO JAILBAIT CONTENT WILL EVER APPEAR ON Voat unless you ACTIVELY subscribe to the sub.

These people are literally searching for objectionable content just so they can get upset about something.

Because to me it seems we have to believe you blindly.

I thought this was atko's website. Stoic doesn't seem to be atko.

And you just said something retarded, by the way. Voat was meant to be about free speech, if he goes on and limits free speech, then that was a lie. You'll end just like Reddit because you feel "Jailbait (I CALL IT CP CUZ IM STOOPID) IS ICKY AND HURTS MUH FEERINGS".

As long as it's legal then it should remain the way it is. Limit the nudity (if sexual) to anything over the age of 18 because Swiss laws changed and you're good to go.

No one realized Voat had this content until some asshat decided to make a post about it. It will never show up on any of the Voat pages, the only way to see it is to search it out and sub to it.
