This is the support one: https://twitter.com/askpaypal

This is the one you should use since it actually has people that check it.

Maybe include the hashtag #FreeVoat too?

Bonus points for mentioning http://twitter.com/bbb_us as well?

I'd be surprised if it has any effect. All they will have to do to defend themselves is say : kiddie porn, and that will be it.

I'm not so sure, I'd be willing to bet that this all started with an email campaign.

Not worth it. Abandon the use of PP, tell everyone you can how evil they are, and move to use bitcoin.

This. I recommend circle.com as an easy way to use your card or bank to get up to $500 instantly. That's how I have donated to Voat three times now.

This is a battle that Emperor Pao doesn't want us to win. Let's kick her right in that sexist twat of hers and show her what this community can do.

People will moan that bitcoin is too complicated or whatever, but it is the only way that voat will get 100% (or close to it depending how the BTC are acquired and cashed in) of the money and have absolutely zero risk of some company or government freezing their funds.

Yep. Paypal / Ebay are one of the worst companies I've ever dealt with. I refuse to pay for anything online if it uses Paypal as the vehicle. Boycotts been going on a solid 7 years now!

The only reason I use Paypal is to get money from survey companies for answering questions (you can actually make money this way; but it's easier if you live in North America, are middle class, and have a kid) I never wanted to use them ever since I heard they stopped payments from BMEZine due to "morals" or some bullshit.

You can try, but I don't think it will do much good. I would rather try to convince paypal users to switch to some other service. It's not like this is an isolated incident. Paypal does this kind of stuff all the time.

I worked on making a website for a business which had an eCommerce component. We spoke with Paypal directly for weeks while setting up a special account and doing some sandbox testing etc. Website launched, all was going well, then one day no payments were going through and we couldn't figure out why... until we realized PayPal had closed the account "under suspicion of money laundering" despite all of the earlier communication with them. Side note: Account was back functioning the next day after some calls.

There seems to be a lot of stories along these lines. Paypal just seems to enjoy freezing accounts and holding the funds. Maybe on the off chance people just cut their losses.

I am curious to know if Paypal has been like this from before? Or did it go downhill after Musk sold it?

They've always been horrible. They were set up specifically to avoid banking regulations so they do whatever they want.

[–] 0o0o 0 points 6 points (+6|-0) ago

yeah I doubt Musk is actually the good guy everyone on reddit goes crazy worshiping. He just knows how to market Tesla and SpaceX to young people, while paying employees below industry avg in name of "we're a startup".

[–] idrinkamp 0 points 4 points (+4|-0) ago

thats how they get away with everything. they specifically are NOT a bank. so they can do whatever. essentially, any money that they are "holding" in your account with them is THEIR money.

this is why I tell everyone to cash out any paypal payments asap.

They've blocked and screwed over private sellers, bloggers and charity fundraisers. Everything from RegrEtsy, a man trying to sell a rare violin, and Brown Moses, a quite well noted journalist who exposes arms trading in Syria and lets people know the real story.

Its all a giant pile of shit. I'd honestly say that PayPal is just fucking over Atko in the same way they do so many others. Okhams razor and all.

That's what happened to RegrEtsy...?! Lame.

PayPals been doing this for years, even back in 2010 when Musk owned it. Well from some quick Google-fu. It's just a heaping pile of shit in general.

i've had no problem with them, but it has been a few years. the charges were kinda high but at the time provided me service that could not be gotten any other way.

what are the alternatives?

Or ask them to block Reddit and let's get some popcorn.

No honestly I would phrase it that way then they have to tell you why they block Voat, but no Reddit. And I have not seen anything worse here than on Reddit.

[–] heyitsfred 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

Reddit has plenty of equivalently "bad" content.

[–] PommesPanzerSperre 0 points 5 points (+5|-0) ago

Exactly. Which is why this approach forces their hand. They either have to tell you what different content there is, which in my opinion they can't. They have to block Reddit, which I doubt they want to. They have to allow Voat again.

You would be amazed what they could ignore when it is their job specifically to ignore.

We should all really point out to Paypal that that other site has a ton of NSFW subs and maybe they ought to take a look at suspending their account.
