And it's been bothering me for weeks now.
I thought I'd gotten it out by submerging my face in a pot of water and blinking a lot, but it seems to still be there. I've been waking up every day with crap in my eyes, and as the day progresses it gets worse, to the point where I'm rubbing it constantly after about twelve hours awake. It has been getting somewhat better - the first few days were terrible - but it's still annoying as hell.
I'm terrible at adulting, so I have no idea where I go to deal with this, in terms of health care (I'm in the US). Do I go to a normal hospital, do I schedule an appointment with an optometrist, do I just deal with it until it goes away (which was my initial plan, but at two weeks from onset of symptoms I'm not sure that's such a good idea at this point)?

Yeah...as others have said, it could be a scratched cornea. I've scratched mine before. Normally for recovery, they tell you to take some time off and try to sleep it off. Sometimes they'll prescribe antibiotics drops or something like that.
A general physician might be good enough to diagnose this. However, if they do find something lodged in your eye, like a splinter or a sliver of glass, you'll probably need a referral to an eye doctor of some kind.
And if you can't do anything else, don't rub it, and get some rest. An anti-inflamatory might help.
