I like this term. It does summarize the way communications, Internet, and media have catalyzed unanticipated escalating social phenomenon, often in response to attempts to employ old fashioned modes of authoritarianism.

MSM tries to bury a "Trend" not realizing they're giving it the attention that it wasn't getting before.
For example: Hillary Clinton's declining health.
By saying that it was "nothing" people prodded harder to find out what it was about.
