So... I was thinking for doing some educational videos for the young and thought "well, some animations are a good way to do it". However, I the kind of person who likes to fly solo, so I was wondering if there are good books/video that I can use to teach myself some basic of 2D animation, and which software would be the best for me.
That is if, of course, it's possible for someone without a lot of training in the subject to develop his own animations.
Could you guys give me some help?

There's always Adobe Flash... but if you want quality you'll have to hire someone who has experience doing this before. Animation is no small task and if you have a timeline in mind, multiply it by ten if you hire someone and twenty or more if you do it yourself.

Dang. What do you mean by timeline in mind

I mean if you think it will take you a week, it would take a trained professional about two months or more. If you want to do it on your own it could easily stretch to a year.
There are resources to learn how to animate out there, but you'll quickly find it's a rabbit hole
EDIT: Also depends heavily on the quality you want from the animation

Why not go old school and do some cut outs then take pics of it?

It's an option but I kinda like to use technology to make things easier and maybe better.

Heya! Im an animation student, and The Animators Survival Kit is something I have reread about three times now. Richard Williams is a world famous animator who wrote this, and makes the book personal and enjoyable. I highly suggest you look into it, it has really helped me. http://www.amazon.com/The-Animators-Survival-Richard-Williams/dp/0571202284

I like using an old amiga program for animating pixelated game sprites, but I don't think deluxe paint animator would work well for education purposes :(

I use Flash CS6 & CC and have made stuff like this - slightly NSFW and this with it. There's also ToonBoom but I don't personally have much experience with it, definitely something you might want to have a look at though. If you choose to go with Flash look up a channel on YouTube called Draw With Jazza his tutorials really helped me a lot.
