Felons cannot own firearms because they have been deprived of that liberty through due process and it is not a cruel or unusual punishment. The Fifth Amendment prohibits the government from depriving a person of life, liberty, or property without due process. The Eighth Amendment prohibits cruel and unusual punishment. Neither restricts punishment for crimes to time in jail or prison or says anything about "paying a debt to society."

Then our Justice department is based upon punishment and not justice, to call it anything else is facetious.

What's the difference between justice and punishment?
