People can't stop talking about feminism or reddit or Ellen Pao. On reddit I subscribed to several anti-feminist subreddits, but even I'm really sick of that shit taking over /v/all every day. Go to a gender subverse for that, we don't need /v/news and the other subs being circlejerks about feminism and Ellen Pao, especially if we ever want to this site to keep growing. If the fat-haters can agree to keep their stuff off the front page for the good of the site why can't we also agree to cool it on feminist stuff in the main subs?
Also the slow load times. They really need to get a Voat gold going, Reddit got a lot of their revenue from that it would help them expand servers even more.
I would like it if most reddit related stuff was kept to /v/MeanwhileOnReddit. Ellen Pao and her shenanigans does not count as real news. But I don't think I want the admins to do anything about it. I just wish the users could self-moderate a little better.
I could not agree more. I unsubscribed from /v/news today because it is overrun with people who are obsessed with bashing feminism and talking about how shitty the world apparently is for men. If I wanted to read that crap I'd go find /v/mencomplaining or some comparable subverse. I replaced it with /v/technology and /v/science, which are mostly just overrun with people obsessed with Ayn Rand. That's not my cup of tea, either, but it makes for at least some decent conversation.

I think a lot of redditors are coming to voat so they can talk about the things they can't discuss on reddit anymore. I imagine most voaters still use their reddit accounts (I know I do), so they aren't used to discussing "normal" topics on voat yet. It's sort of like how Australia was founded by criminals; they probably talked about criminal stuff for quite a while before they developed into a (mostly) normal society.
Most of the subverses I've subscribed to seem to be dead or nearly dead. Very little activity in comparison to what I was used to at the other place. If it catches on, that will change.

I know I never did it on reddit, but if you want to have a thriving community, you gotta post. And that's what I've been doing here on voat. Go to your favorite subs, and post good content. I've been trying to grow /v/mealtimevideos this way.
Yeah, when I started here, I was really surprised that /v/nintendo and /v/3ds were barren. I need to post there more often.
If people see activity, then the community will look alive. If it looks alive, then people will be more willing to post since it means that they'll be more likely to get feedback.
I knew someone was going to say that! You are right, of course. I've been trying to do that in some subverses, but I am a bit worried that I'll end up pissing off the mods if I'm not careful. I suppose I have to count on them telling me to knock it off it I post too much.
I'm on the same voat as you. I think it's important to find a way to promote those subverses, because they seem forgotten. Someone posted on /v/newsubverses about this topic. Here's the thread.
This. Every other post is about how it's either too similar or not similar enough to reddit. That It should be exactly the same or radically different for the sake of being different. I feel like reddit is obviously a successful platform so there's thing wrong with copying it with a few tweaks.

I dislike that the huge influx of people coming from Reddit (and I'm one of them) are too busy talking about how much they hate Reddit to really add to new and interesting conversation. That said, things should get a bit of a boost, considering the Voat userbase pretty much doubled overnight, as soon as all this "Reddit refugee" stuff blows over.
Well, it's pretty polished for being in alpha testing. I know they didn't intend for this site to gain so much popularity, quite literally, overnight. It feels like Bender created his own Reddit - with RES features by default and a sweet dark theme.
That being said, I have no doubt the people behind the site have big plans. I'm sure they started with Reddit as a template, implemented a few things they thought were lacking, and are moving forward from there. I think the future of the site, assuming it sticks around, will slowly start to evolve into something more than just a clone.
That's what I was going to mention as well. It's not original at all. It's the same idea, only with a few interesting tweaks. Kudos on the tweaks, but they've basically said they've started a new car company by cloning an existing car and changing the hubcaps.

Thanks for showing me that sub! I've been wanting a place where I can find videos for similar purposes. They just got my first link submission!

You're the one that can change this. Go post something!

Load times.

Voat is really giving us a little lesson in patients. Load times will become quicker and content will become greater, just give em some time.

Lack of users. Also, " You are doing that too fast. Please wait 30 seconds before trying again."

That the comments automatically sort by top instead of new and it has to be manually toggled every single time.

It's not actually different from reddit. It's the same website with different people but a slightly different polish.

In fairness, that's kind of what most car companies are...
Also, see their about page for a usage of that exact metaphor:)

Yep. I intend to stick around. Even if I find the alternative I'm looking for. I wanna see where voat Is headed
