In the case of Unbreakable, I'd move the twist from the end to the middle. The film had great potential, but Shamalamadingdong fell into the trap of always having to have a twist ending, therefore he moves the reveal of the main villian to the end and pads out the film to the point of torture just to keep that twist in the ending. If the twist had been moved to the second act, then it would both improve the pacing and allow the film to really capitalise on the whole GRITTY TWISTY SUPERHEROES hook. If you move the twist to the middle, you now have the opportunity to do that hook in a unique and interesting way, doing a gritty superhero movie well before Batman Begins, and one under the unique direction of Shamalayan just before he gets all up his own arse. As it is, the film ends where most films end the 2nd act and set up the final showdown in act 3, and it kinda suffers for it.
