Being passed over for some guy who can lay down some tracks on his ipad or by the person who knows how to market themselves on Instagram.

This about sums it up.

The best artists and bands I know of, do not receive radio play.

Creativity and substance isn't marketable.

That's ....not right.... Musical geniuses today shouldn't need marketing talents as well. I think we're missing out on greatness.

Think of that one shining star being overwhelmed in a flood of mediocre light.

Right because it's only creative if its some dude sitting at a piano playing chords? Please.

The edm scene has given rise to some incredible music. People who could never afford a live band now have the opportunity to show what they would do with one. Look around google for some edm live sets. Do some research before dismissing an entire genre just because you don't like what tends to bubble to the top.

its just part of the dumbing down, brainwashed society. they want instant gratification and made to feel special. I really think people dont like the music, they just go along with it as a style. There will always be a few groups that stand out, but that is about it.

Never_Over....why are you so fatalistic? There's always music to lift your soul. There's always music in our lives. Fuck the media and their bullshit tunes that they try to jam down our throats..... There is greatness out there. We're just not hearing it.

I agree.

But I wonder if it isn't the music itself. I've hammered my hearing since the days of 2LiveCrew and old school, patied to who ended up on MTV, and clubbed. So, I don't mind mind numbing bass but now my ears do. So, I don't hate any type of music but I've noticed the quality has really dropped except for like you said a few exceptions.

These days I've falken back into older music that has more than 1 verse of music.

Jim Morrison might well have been one of the last Beethoven's of our time. Mr. Mojo Risin.

For all you kids out there into Harry Potter and witchcraft..... Mr Mojo Risin is an anagram for Jim Morrison.

Wrong we will not know who the contemporary musical geniuses are in our life times well that is unless you live for 100+ years.

I respectfully disagree.

I haven't followed the indies scene so it's hard to say who is really good but it's not that difficult to pick up great artist that are still alive or have died in our lifetimes.

Glass and others do exist in classical. Dylan, Morrison were great. It's just that we don't give enough focus on good musicians and just end up being fed auto tune crap or have deal with the likes of West and Swift.
