Good luck having a productive/usefull discussion on this topic.

I think the best thing us "normal" users can do is to look at their content. If all they do is post the same shit over and over plus they're limited to few subjects then I would think that the possibility for dishonesty is a lot higher. If a person is posting a bunch of shit all over voat that is relevant to many different subjects, then it is much more likely that they are just another user that goes against the standard opinion.

Many people will check posting history before downvoating or calling people out as shills. You'll often see people making posts calling out users, and these posts will usually link to said users' submission histories, and will also draw attention to the account age.

Still, there are also many people who will call anyone who disagrees with them a shill. Sometimes this is an effort to discredit the other opinion. Other times the users legitimately think the other is a shill, they simply haven't taken the time to investigate. The internet is swarmed with Clinton shills right now--this is well known and well-supported--so when new accounts show up and start dissing Trump, it isn't entirely unreasonable to jump to the conclusion that they're a shill.

That said, it reflects badly on Voat and what we stand for to call people shills with no more evidence than a single post. I think people should at least make an effort to look into a person's post history and account age before calling someone else a shill. Failing to do this reflects badly on you.

I don't agree. I am a moderate who dislikes both candidates, and I have tried submitting things that are critical of Trump or positive about the democrats (not too much positive I can say about the H-beast), and every time they are down-voted into oblivion. Not to mention the vile shit the usual suspects spew when they see it.

I had to delete a lot of them in the early days before I had the points to take the DV hits which limit ones activities. From that I learned just not to submit that sort of content.

On the flip side, the Trump shills (also same things a few days only posts pro Trump/anti-Hillary) are met with open arms and not called out for being shills for Trump.

No. The hyper-partisan masses will downvoat posts/comments based on their particular ideology. In all honesty I really don't think half of them are bright enough to know how to check a posters history.

I could not agree more. "Shill" seems to be more of a rallying cry of the inept and small minded. 9/10 times it is used to dismiss a dissenting opinion and not for any other reason. Not only does it reflect poorly on voat, it also (I would argue) stifles growth and participation. It is hard enough getting any traction on anything unless you post some clinton/muslim/black folk smear. A lot of smaller subs are/have been drying up for quite a while and I can only imagine it is due to the amount of vitriolic idiocy that gets spewed all around the place.

Voat has a lot of paranoia. It used to be SRS and the Cabal, leftists, globalists, then (and still) power mods, and political shills.

Too true, but I would expanded it to paranoid hatred of anything or anyone who is different than that segment demographic.

The cabal was created by shitposters as a joke in response to accusations of a voting brigade in /SBBH which was probably a response to accusations of a voting brigade in PV. Some PV users and some SBBH users have had a longstanding difference of opinion. It's drama all the way down.

Here's a PV post about the Cabal from when it was a hot topic. It has some context in the comments if you filter through the biases.

I'm also a biased source trying to be objective. I was present through a lot of the drama and expressed my opinions.

Shill is just an easy way out of having a real conversation. Just ignore it. If that is the best they can do, the obviously do not know enough to properly defend their views.
