put him in a flat tub that you have tilted. Then you can have water on one side so he can move in and out as desired. also wash down with mildly warm water to flush away the sticky stuff. If the critter is a dry land type we do not want to drown them.

Soap and water. If that doesnt remove the glue trap residue, use paint thinner. I had to do this last week for a snake in my garage (I dont mind snakes...but outdoorsplz).
