The voting system is different which is nice, but once people start flooding the site it'll become another reddit. Something will happen and then we'll migrate somewhere else.

What could we change though? What hurt digg? What hurt reddit?

There are nearly 5000 people in this sub right now. That's a huge amount of potential there. Why cant we crowd source all that creativity and brilliance into making the next generation of social media. That means, even if we took the ninety nine percentile of that, we'd still have 500 people with their a higher iq than 99% percent than people.

Thats one thing all these sites did well; which was throw their weight around. Be it pranks or donating to haiti or organizing and covering protests; this is a powerful fucking tool and more people need to realize that.

Well, for starters the moderation logs are public. So you can see if a story is getting suppressed.

Edit: Since some people want to know how to get to it. /v/askvoat/modlog/deleted

Precisely this. Voat seems to be the more mature older brother of reddit; wise to the ways of the world and level-headed enough to not erupt into flame wars at the drop of a hat. I haven't seen many trolls, which is mainly thanks to @Atko 's excellent CCP throttling rules. Those same rules are going to make it quite difficult for spambots, trolls and shills to invade; they were very well thought out.

Sometimes the only way people can learn is by first being wrong.

I think the limitations will make shills have to work a little harder to promote their employer's ideals...

That my problem though. Why are we so complacent with that. We know it's an issue.

As for the limitations, can you be specific?

By limitations, I mean the 10 upvoat limit without 20 comment credit, no downvoating, etc. If it takes me this long to promote what I like, it'll take the shills this long, making it a more difficult target.

I personally think we will see tighter, smaller communities and less of a overarching site identity. Subverses dedicated to topics will be themed to that topic. Discussions, social norms, and what is upvoted will be based on subverse, so you won't see pun threads in serious communities. It seem that this is a shared idea between everywhere I go right now and I hope it stays this way. That change starts with us and how we vote.
