I've got a very cheap, easy and rewarding way for you to become a better person.

  • Go to the store and buy a package or two of socks.
  • Drive around and give them to homeless people until they're gone.

Simple and easy. You will have made many people very happy and much more comfortable. There is nothing better than helping someone who can't repay you.

Start a sock company and only hire homeless people. You'll feel good like this guy suggests but you'll make money because capitalism. Also, you'll actually do something good by giving them jobs instead of just feeling good by giving them socks.

When he said "homeless people" I think he meant bums, not those high class hobos with their fancy half-full cans of spray paint and enough socks that they don't think twice about ruining one.

Because nothing will motivate a homeless person into reentering society like an empty package of socks!

Or you can buy them drugs instead. You'll get the same spiritual reward.

Well, you could exercise and/or cook all your meals from scratch (improvement of the body), learn something via reading (history, economics, a language, etc...) to improve the mind. You could meditate, or do yoga (heck, go to Church, spend some time outside appreciating Nature) to improve your spiritual well being. Improve your "man skills" by learning/practicing some basic survival skills, like starting a fire (no matches/lighters/accelerates). Declutter your life by cleaning your residence and purging clothes you haven't worn in a year (or any "stuff" that's been in storage for a year or more).

I suspect there are more things you could do to "better" yourself than there are things that won't. Heck, depending on how you define "better man", that could even include sitting on your ass, playing video games.

I just spent the last several minutes composing a similar response. Cool how that works.

IMHO, yours is much better... more eloquent, thoughtful (or maybe thought-provoking?) It addresses the underlying concept of "betterment" without just listing the item by item list.

Same concept, better execution. :)

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." - Will Durant (often mistakenly misquoted as being an Aristotle quote).

Start simple. Develop discipline with little things like make your bed every day. Wash your dishes every day. Tidy up your home, take out trash, etc. Your home is a reflection of you. Look around you. When was the last time you swept/vacuumed/mopped? This isn't about cleanliness. It's about honoring yourself and accepting that you deserve to live in a good environment.

Translate all that into a bigger picture. Not only do you deserve a clean home. You owe it to yourself to eat a healthy diet, to have a career you enjoy.

Baby steps. For example, eat one more piece of fruit. Read an article about a career or skill you'd like to develop. Pick a goal. Figure out the steps you need to take to get there.

First time I have heard that expression used correctly. It's enjoyable to see.

Take a classical book and read it. Whether you start with The Prince, Don Quixote, Discourses on Livy, Frankenstein, Clausewitz, Faustus or Leviathan doesn't matter, because you will eventually get around to the rest of the list.

If you are poor, many of the classics that have become public domain are also available for free on Project Gutenberg, Archive.org and Wikisource.

In the internet age there is no excuse for not being a man of vast reading. If you have the time to read 10 shitty clickbait articles, you have the time to read 10 pages from any of the above books and can reach them as conveniently.

Sit still, close your eyes and observe everything your senses detect with out trying to control them. This includes your thoughts. Let them go where they go and don't judge or direct them. Just observe.

Tell your loved ones that you love them & appreciate them.

I was going to call my grandmother this weekend to see about coming to visit in a couple months.

She passed away Thursday night. Always tell them when you can.
