I didn't delete my Reddit account, but I may consider it if I figure that Voat is a good permanent alternative.

And so far... You feel like it's a valid alternative?

The website has a lot of potential, it just depends on how many people fully migrate to it.

A few things for me.

  1. A good community
  2. RES for Voat as I'm far too old and far too use to it to switch to any new fandangled extension

I do wonder however how Voat will fit into the hierarchy that is Reddit/ 9Gag/ 4Chan. Will it be the little brother to Reddit? Will it find itself between 9Gag & 4Chan? Just curious questions so far, only time will tell.

I feel it's valid, but currently reddit has a little too much content for me to consider straight-up leaving it for Voat.

I feel that Voat will eventually become a good alternative, maybe even overtaking reddit in terms of community. However it still has a ways to go. For the most part Voat needs more users, with those users parties such as app developers and advertisers will start to show interest. Besides that I think Voat needs to be more unique, from what I've seen so far Voat mimics reddit very closely, not a bad thing but for your average user, they see little incentive to use Voat if its essentially a clone of Reddit.

I think that Voat will grow into a great community, but it wont happen overnight.

Pretty much my thought process as well. It seems promising and hopefully voat will work out. The censorship over at reddit isn't something I want to be apart of.

I haven't. I have been there for 7 years now, and I have a ton of stuff saved from a while ago. Until I weed through that list and save what I need, I'll probably delete it then.

I didn't either. I'm rather hoping that Reddit comes back to its senses, but I won't hold my breath.

No, because I still use Reddit for things that aren't on Voat yet.

But even if I did stop using Reddit I wouldn't delete my account as I see no reason to.

We appreciate your support. Please buy reddit gold and turn off adblock while browsing reddit, every user makes a difference.

You just triggered me so hard. I'd appreciate if you'd shadowban yourself on reddit. Thanks.

This is pretty much my reasoning too. Hopefully Voat will grow and become even more active, eventually replacing Reddit just like Reddit replaced Digg.

I'm planning to do it eventually but right now I still want it for some of the smaller subs where I don't have to deal with reddit politics. But once those get a decent crowd over here I'll leave for good. I'm not attached to my internet points (especially cause I don't have many).

I agree. I feel like I've moved from a crowded neighborhood, to a new nice one on the edge of town. I don't mind driving into the old crowded city center to run errands. But at the end of the day, it's nice to escape to this place.

I have deleted my account. I have watched Reddit transform for the past 5 years into what it is today. I am not the least bit surprised by what is going on. It seems to happen to all the best sites/companies when they turn to profit margins and say fuck all to their user base. I.e Facebook, digg, EA, Oculus VR, the list goes on.

I haven't deleted my account but totally understand. There are still good subreddits that I visit and enjoy, subreddits that don't have drama and are relatively free of excessive admin/mod control.

And that's the problem with what we're seeing with Reddit. Before, the staff of the website used to sit back and make sure the site worked. Now, you have people in power exerting their opinions on everyone else. The problem is when people involved get too involved and too powerful.

It's the same reason Digg died before v4 (started probably around v2). There were issues with people exerting a lot of influence on that website. People don't like that, they want to feel like they are part of the community. What we've seen is Reddit go down that same path. Fuck replying to anything science related if Unidan was going to respond, doesn't matter if you're a professional. Every IAMA is now approved beforehand by the bosses at Reddit (or something like that). I don't care about the CEO of Reddit but she has done everything to exert her influence unto the community. Textbook example of what not to do with social media. Sub-reddit drama? It all comes from power hungry mods and admins who feel that they want to remind the users where they stand. Pretty soon, there is going to be NO community.

But that's ok.

New websites come up. Reddit was better than Digg. Digg was better than ... Blogger? I can't remember. Reddit is changing but change is inevitable and something will replace Reddit.

Exactly, there's a nichey sport that I follow that didn't even get a ripple of the tsunami that is the rest of reddit. I've kept my account, for now, just so I can have access to that.

I deleted mine as well. I know that losing one account won't make a difference to reddit, but I felt like for my own sake I needed to send them a message. Time will tell if it was the right decision. Hopefully voat will become a viable alternative.

I have. I had a four year old account that had a total of like 60 karma. I never really posted or commented, I just used it to lurk. As for why, I just got sick of the rules not being applied evenly. Also, I liked the idea of reddiquitte, but it never really worked. There were just too many people using the downvote button as punishment for disagreeing with them on the internet. It will probably happen here too. I'll just keep moving.

Exactly my feelings as well. It always felt like I was the guy who joins a conversation in progress. By the time I was caught up, every variation of what I wanted to say was said. At that point I knew my comment would be ignored anyway, so I wouldn't say anything.

Not yet. I'm lazy. Plus that would mean i would have to go on reddit.

No, there are too many niche subs that won't have a following on Voat for a long time/forever, because they aren't affected by censoring.

Same reason I still have my reddit account, but also the same reason I'm worried about what sort of migration this place may experience because of it. They're scaring off people who care about having a non-censored forum for discussion, but they're also scaring away a lot of people who don't realize that just because you have the right to say something, doesn't mean you're not also being an ass by saying it. Hopefully there's more of an influx of the former than the latter.

I just put r/fatpeoplehate. I wanted to list all the other subs that should have gone as well, but it would have taken too long.
