It doesn't have to be something technical, academic or work related. What subjects do you know about or have expertise in?
One problem I had with other sites in the past is that far too often people with credentials, experience and more valuable opinions that are based on facts are ignored. Meanwhile the laman's populist opinion is upvoted and a good response is buried in comments.
What sort of subverses do you recommend/moderate to discuss these subjects? Take it a step further (unlike myself) and take ownership of these and make OC.

I know modern/designer/hobby /v/boardgames rather well, having logged plays of 400+ in the last six years, and published one. I wrote maybe 25 /r/boardgames-exclusive reviews back in the day, so there's that. I study game theory and game design in my free time.
Teaching math is my vocation, so I'm well-versed in most undergraduate subjects. I don't do stats.
Contemporary music theory and performance is probably my next best topic. I play guitars, drums, keys, etc. Oh, that reminds me - someone needs to create /v/drums before norm comes over and squats on it. See /r/drums for context.
