Sounds more like a business transaction. There was an offer and acceptance. He offered a service, you accepted and you paid. I don't know the specifics of your nation, but this would fall into retail law in my country.

I wish this logic resonated with people. However privilaged people in the United States kinda look down on this in the United States since they believe they should have gotten the dollar just because they are homeless and/or buy them food which in my eyes enables more than helps.

Bullshit. If people ask me for money I always ask what they can do to earn it. I had one girl sing Mariah Carey. She said it was humiliating, I said it was humiliating when people ask for money.

Yes it would, but it would also vary from region to region, and by country. It's selling a service essentially, and yes I did omit consideration, good catch :)

Reminds me about a story told by Milton Friedman-

At one of our dinners, Milton recalled traveling to an Asian country in the 1960s and visiting a worksite where a new canal was being built. He was shocked to see that, instead of modern tractors and earth movers, the workers had shovels. He asked why there were so few machines. The government bureaucrat explained: “You don’t understand. This is a jobs program.” To which Milton replied: “Oh, I thought you were trying to build a canal. If it’s jobs you want, then you should give these workers spoons, not shovels.”

Labor laws, minimum wages, slip and falls while on 'company dime', mandatory background checks, etc.

You make this public the government will shut it down.

Don't tell any progressives, or they'll let you know what they think about paying somebody less than $15/hr.

My rule is to only give money to people performing on the streets. Even if it's just banging out a beat with sticks on trees or trashcans or chalk drawings on a sidewalk.

Otherwise no money for you
