I had tenants who were on foodstamps. They used them as trade. They still had enough food to waste almost every day, and while they did do a good job finding discounted food, it was all total junk. They were both capable of working but chose not to.
Also there is a waitress at a local Dennys who works 2 days a week to keep her benefits, so it works the other way as well. Once you are working a little bit, it's easy to get further assistance. These programs that reward you for not working are a pseudo-socialism trick to keep a caste system in place. Eventually these people have no upward mobility, where they are the most easily controlled special interest group.

It is not good to base public on anecdotal examples. Undoubtedly there are scammer in every situation from contractors, politicians all the way down to the low level con men. But the intended people that need help are by in large elderly, children and disabled people. My brother is on disability for a back injury. If you were to see him you would think that he could play professional sports. His reality is that he has to spend the biggest part of every day in bed, can’t walk 100 yards and hasn’t slept trough a night in a couple of years. If you saw him walk from the handicap parking place to a store you might wonder how he faked some illness and got a parking pass.

'But the Trump administration has been particularly aggressive even for Republicans in going after food stamps. '
'Which means that programs like food stamps are a subsidy for low-wage employers. '
'The rule would also prevent households with more than $2,250 in assets, or $3,500 for a household with a disabled adult, from receiving food stamps. '
'Unless the Trump administration finds a way to kick you off. '
'Just $2,250 in assets would make you ineligible. '
