It's a calculated demoralization tactic straight from Alinsky's handbook, which essentially involves attacking our need for ideological purity by dragging down and besmirching anybody who acts or who we could act in the name of.

I believe it'll come to a head when widespread familiarization with technologies such as deepfakes and the very idea and implications of such technologies reaches a level where the effect that has, for example, protected Trump among his supporters from the various scandals trotted out against him, namely that it can all be dismissed as fake and conspiracy (a hilarious backfiring of the older psychological warfare waged against us) protects nearly everyone else from attempts at character assassination- post the images you like, they're all deepfakes, post the screenshots of social media, even post links, it's all shopped and edited. Reaching peak distrust in reality will be good for us, because then once a heroic character or idea takes root, any attempt to tarnish it can be dismissed out of hand.
