Plantation niggers earned a wage believe it or not, and depending on their role it would be the equivalent of about 11 thousand a year (child picking the fields), 22 thousand a year (adult picking the fields), 44 thousand a year (slave that oversees the other slaves or a personal servant in the house of the master), or 88 thousand a year (a blacksmith slave). Just ask yourself this; how did slaves buy their freedom? That's right they got a wage. Meanwhile they also got free housing, food, and in general enjoyed a care-free life. Research the real history of slavery throughout the ages. Most slaves also came to America in the condition of slavery because of thee reasons: 1. They acquired a debt and were sold into slavery to pay off the debt. 2. They were captured in war and sold into slavery. 3. They were criminals who had a choice between go to the new world or deal with worse conditions in the old world.
Some blacks saved their wage and bought their freedom and went on to own their own slaves. Whites are better at saving and value their freedom more so more whites eventually did become freemen, whereas blacks tended to be too comfortable being slaves.
Were there bad masters? Sure. Just like you can have terrible parents but we aren't going to say ABOLISH PARENTHOOD.
Many slaves wrote very positively about their masters and were sad the institution of slavery was ended.
Slaves and Masters
(1 Timothy 6:1-2)
Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.
And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.

My own objection to slavery personally is that we shouldn't take slaves of other races. We should only enslave members of our own race. Why? It tends to multiply the slave while the aristocracy tends to wane. Many letters I read about that where various persons across America (hundreds of years ago) complained that America was becoming increasingly populated by Negroes/Coloreds because of slavery.
