Also, tips for forcing yourself to study? I have an exam in 3 weeks that I'm at 0% prepared for. Keep procrastinating. What do?

I have found that the mind works like a muscle. Heightened periods of FOCUS and ATTENTION is like when we strain the muscle. Nobody can do "heavy lifting" overnight. As with what >>13158753 says, breaking things into small chunks make even large amounts of material manageable. You arent going to move a pallet of boxes by picking up the whole freakin pallet, would you? No, you have to have a plan to go about it, how to break it into manageable chunks. Most importantly, you have to give your mind time to relax, become unfocused and calm during the breaks. Make the most of your breaks. Find out what works best for your own personal memory retention.

As time goes on, you will find yourself better at planning, and better at focusing hard. Your memory will improve if you put in good effort towards absorption and recall. Work your way up.

Procrastination is a feedback loop. When presented with a hard task, I made things even harder by putting it off (therefore giving myself less time to complete the task). A few years back, I turned the nasty habit of procrastination on its head. In my senior year, I would plan my work as soon as something would be assigned. Have a framework up as soon as possible. The details will fill themselves in as long as you put in good honest efforts at regular intervals.

Good luck in finding out what works best for you.

Try to at least start on studying, open the book and read a few pages, or a chapter, whatever. Basically break it into chunks and make a habit of hacking at those chunks bit by bit. You'll drop the ball and have some gaps, that's OK. Even if you are only 50% prepared before you have to last minute cram the last 50%, that's better than cramming it all at the last minute.

I finish my degree this year and I have never been able to stop my procrastination. As long as it doesn’t effect the quality of the outcome don’t worry too much.

If you have other non-school things to work on then give yourself a choice, you have to either study or work on the other thing. Could be exercise, cleaning, art, reading. If you’re like me you will do anything to avoid the studying, so this way at least you force yourself to get other things done. Just don’t allow yourself to procrastinate with useless bullshit

When it really comes down to the wire I find the best method is to set a timer for 1 hour of work time, then I get a 15 min break, and repeat
