Don't give up, anon. I had many, many false starts before I got really good at many different hobbies, and even then it took years. Sometimes it takes a lot of attempts and approaches to consolidate into those "aha" moments. And sometimes you have to make a lateral move. Like you moving to running instead of lifting. The only problem with lifting is the gains are more ephemeral, whereas muscle increases your vo2 max without losing much gains from periods of stagnation. You could try bodyweight fitness. Look up the book Overcoming Gravity on libgen. You'll figure something out.
