The reason why I picked Japanese was because I was inspired to learn it recently. If I want to be serious about learning a language it can't simply be a hobby so I suppose its to strengthen my bonds with the culture. I am not looking to get a wife from Asia. Nobody nearby speaks anything but English. And for the final question, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have a place where I know for sure I could move to with my educational background in STEM.

To be honest, I just enjoy the media from Japan which is probably why the European languages don't have that same spark for me. It makes me feel guilty because of that disconnect.

If you aren't going to racemix with a nip, I don't see the problem. You also already speak a European language, English. If you feel guilty maybe try digging a bit further into English, too. Increase your vocabulary, do some writing or read some greats, or look into middle or old English. I can tell you that Japanese takes an insane amount of time and effort to learn, it's easily the hardest language coming from a European background just because of those fucking moon runes which don't even carry a single reading, unlike chink. I say with no exaggeration that you can become fluent in French, Spanish, and Italian by the time you achieve that status in Japanese alone. I believe you could also do German and French in the same time, and I'm speaking from experience here. But the grammar and pronunciation are not especially difficult.

Well you've given me something to think about in regards to time. I didn't consider that factor. Thanks for your advise.

They probably have some interesting math and physics books in Japanese. I only comment based offf of the ones I've seen that were translated.
