Japanese has a lot of good content but you won't get insight into the coming European race wars, so it's mostly useful for untranslated anime/manga/vidya and novels if you get hardcore. German hasn't made much of note since the war, but they have tons of great written works from during/before it, and a wealth of technical literature, plus the best learning resources. But many/most of the younger generation speaks English, so you'll have less opportunities to speak it. French is pretty good in terms of written content and they have good comic books, but they have no image board except for /dempart/. It's also a bit easier to learn than German, if you commit to using a pronunciation trainer early on. Russian has the most internet content because they built their own infrastructure instead of just reusing Facebook and speaking in English all the time. Italian is pretty mediocre for modern content, but they have a low English speaking rate and are welcoming to speak with learners. Most of modern Spanish content is garbage from Latin America, and dubs/translations of stuff from the Anglos/Francosphere. It's also muddied by a shitload of different pseudo-dialects, but they are mutually intelligible for the most part.

In short I think it depends on your goals. Is it just a hobby or do you want to strengthen your bonds with another culture? Are you looking for a wife? Who nearby you speaks it, are you interested in travel or potentially moving, a backup country to evade the FEMA camps?

The reason why I picked Japanese was because I was inspired to learn it recently. If I want to be serious about learning a language it can't simply be a hobby so I suppose its to strengthen my bonds with the culture. I am not looking to get a wife from Asia. Nobody nearby speaks anything but English. And for the final question, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have a place where I know for sure I could move to with my educational background in STEM.

To be honest, I just enjoy the media from Japan which is probably why the European languages don't have that same spark for me. It makes me feel guilty because of that disconnect.

If you aren't going to racemix with a nip, I don't see the problem. You also already speak a European language, English. If you feel guilty maybe try digging a bit further into English, too. Increase your vocabulary, do some writing or read some greats, or look into middle or old English. I can tell you that Japanese takes an insane amount of time and effort to learn, it's easily the hardest language coming from a European background just because of those fucking moon runes which don't even carry a single reading, unlike chink. I say with no exaggeration that you can become fluent in French, Spanish, and Italian by the time you achieve that status in Japanese alone. I believe you could also do German and French in the same time, and I'm speaking from experience here. But the grammar and pronunciation are not especially difficult.

They probably have some interesting math and physics books in Japanese. I only comment based offf of the ones I've seen that were translated.
