This subverse is dead-ish, so allow me to spice things up a bit.
If you need to do something different with your 3DS and your current crop of 3DS games, NDS games, and VC titles aren't interesting you, then perhaps you need a blast from the past.
First, visit r43ds.org and buy yourself an R4 SDHC Dual Core 2017 flash card. May as well grab a 16GB microSD card for it, too. It's relatively cheap and you'll receive it in about a week. (Not a commercial for them. Go wherever you want, but I can certifiably say their card works.)
Once arrived, install (copy) the moonshell OS from the website.
Now you have a working flash card. It will appear as a NDS game in your 3DS and is used in your 3DS's NDS mode.
Now, download emulators for classic systems:
NesDS for NES games
Lameboy for Gameboy
Jenesis DS for Sega Genesis
Stella DS for Atari 2600
SNEmulDS for SNES (works so-so)
Grab ROMs for those systems off the Internet. While you're there, grab ROMs for every NDS game you like or wanted to try.
Boom, no more needing Nintendo to choose Virtual Console titles, you have them all. No more hunting down NDS games, you have them all.
You can also get DoomDS and the Doom Shareware WAD file and play Doom/Doom2 on your 3DS, too!
By literally adding thousands of games to your 3DS, all on one gamecard, you will have several generations of games to keep that 3DS rocking.
