NASA predicts signs of alien life will be found by 2025. What would happen to us, society, science if this turns out to be true? submitted by xiaotianchun to space

I don't even think it'd need to be an intelligent species to be world changing. It would be a first if it's confirmed. Life exists outside of the Earth.

Even if that life is microbial, it still means a lot of shifting in world views. I mean - is that covered in any major religions? If so, how?...

Tabletop, Kingdom Builder and Screwing up the Rules submitted by Andvari to boardgames

My opinion? Wil and the folks working on Tabletop are still doing an amazing thing. Attracting tons of people to a youtube channel all about board games. Do they get everything right? No. Did they screw up a number of times? Sure. But they're still having a great time playing the game and are doing one of the most important jobs in our hobby.

They are showing how much fun a group of friends can have sitting around a table pushing cards and bits about. That is the biggest, most important thing about this hobby. It's fun, it's interesting and it's worth doing because of those things. If it felt like a job, none of us would do it much.

But what Wil and crew are doing is work - they're putting hours and hours into it and it still looks fun. So sure, there were rules mistakes and yes Wil's unhappy about it and said so very publicly. And he did so in a way that was reactionary, inflamed and very much in the moment. Well, that clinches it. Wil's a human and makes mistakes and stuff. I'll be he goes to the bathroom too and sometimes enjoys eating too much chocolate. That stuff happens and we'll all get over it.

I still enjoy tabletop and I'll continue to watch it because it's fun. If I want to see exactly how to play a game, I'll hunt down a how to play video. If I want to see some interesting people playing, and get a good feel for how a game works, I'll get that from Tabletop.

Buddy of mine is about to launch a Kickstarter, what are things you like to see and what are some rewards you enjoy getting? submitted by Smurf_rebellion to boardgames

Absolutely read Stonemaier's lessons. Also, avoid T-shirts.

What would I like to see in a campaign? First off, a good game with a rulebook (even a draft) available. Those are the two most important things for me. After that - stretch goals that actually take more money to accomplish. I don't particularly care if you'll feature my name on a website somewhere or list me in a book. I'd love to see upgraded components, mini-expansions and additional, in-game stuff as stretch goals though.

Totally new subverse on board games?! Excellent! What game or games are you currently in love with? submitted by xiaotianchun to boardgames

What about a Castles of Burgundy or Lords of Waterdeep type game? Feels a lot heavier than a deck builder but won't cause you to throw your hands up in disgust over the rules and mechanics.

Hey all. I'm not so much running away from Reddit as gravitating towards new things submitted by xiaotianchun to introductions

Nice! I would upvote your comment but I'm fresh out of upvotes. Er... upvoats? Those 10 go quick!

I imagine this place is going to see some spectacular growth very soon. Tonight even. Seems like lots of folks are dropping by to check it out!

ASHES - Rise of the Phoenixborn will be available as a pre-order from Plaid Hat Games on the 9th at noon, EST submitted by xiaotianchun to boardgames

You should be able to find game details about Ashes in the ver near future - if I come across them I'll post a link. As for the Dead of Winter stuff - there's a new expansion coming out for that soon too. The next Crossroads game will be the Lost in Space version....
