[Deleted on Reddit] Sneaky sneaky Microsoft, corporations never change. submitted by BustyChicksFTW to technology

Information gathering is pretty standard these days. Everyone does it and it has helped development of good user experience immensely.

The bad part is that we are still in the awkward growing phase regarding the laws and legislation centered around data mining, information and usage of it. There need to be strict laws where companies explicitly tell what data they are gathering, what they are using it for, who they are selling it to and why.

Thankfully most companies seem to be pretty innocent in their use of big data but it is a ridiculously powerful tool that can be easily exploited for nefarious purposes.

Money isn't power, information is. We are seeing startups get dozens of millions in funding for pointless apps simply because they have a large user base. (See Yo. app)

I wonder why Pluto appears yellow. Isn't it mostly made of pure ice? What is the color element we are seeing?

Windows 10 is free submitted by robertrobot to gifs

Wow, just like Gmail, Facebook, iTunes, Twitter, and every other service out there. They could have done the same thing they've done for the past 15 years and release a marginally better OS for a flat fee and see the slow adoption rate the other OSs had go even slower. Or they could offer it for free with services and data mining to offset the revenue loss. You can't release a free product and expect nothing to cover the costs. What are you? A commie?!?!

Seems to me like their plan is working. Everyone is talking about it and most of the people complaining are the ones planning on using it.

22 years on, Doom retains the ability to shock submitted by shodanshadow to gaming

Is there any other franchise that has reached this size while having so little released? There's more than 10 years between releases (ignoring the gap between Doom and II). Seems they're doing something right.

What would you like to see more of in the Video Game Industry? submitted by sodypops to gaming

That and I wouldn't mind a downscale in graphics if it allowed for a bigger more detailed world, a better game, and a lack of cuts in over all development!

then look at how the internet reacted to Fallout 4. It's not easy being popular.

Aiaiaiii, I made a Kirby bowl! submitted by Voluptuous_Panda to gaming

Aww, I was wondering how a Kirby bow would look like while the image loaded. Turns out I can't read. Nice bowl, man.
