I'll switch to linux once Win 7 is obsolete, not that they'll notice any lost revenue whatsoever from me.

Do you think Americans will ever be able to reclaim the rights stolen from them by the Patriot Acts? submitted by ProfKraken to AskVoat

Our federal government will never, fucking ever, give up these powers. They will placate the people with a show every now and then by claiming they are scaling back the powers, but it will just be an act. I can't imagine a probable scenario where they would willingly surrender so much power over the people the are supposed to be serving. We, the citizens, were supposed to have privacy and the government was supposed to be transparent and representative. We've been living in opposite world so long that there is no going back. GG peeps.

Three cheers for increased crop failures, high food prices, and people going hungry!

Even if I were to sink low enough to eat McDonald's food, I couldn't eat that much in a week. Where are the leafy greens? Good lord, some people's diets are so incredibly fucked.

In the past we didn't pay $100/month to have internet at our fingertips 24/7. We didn't have 300 channels of mindless entertainment exposing us to advertisements 33% of the time we sat in front of it. In the past we didn't spend the equivalent of a month's wages on a pair of sneakers just to fit in with the current fashion craze. The things we bought weren't so disposable. They were maintainable and serviceable. We changed the oil in our cars and did part replacement ourselves with our friends under a shade tree with a case of beer. We hadn't imagined catalytic convertors and computers in cars were beyond fancy. We listened to whatever the FM radio stations played rather than spending $0.99 per song on our iPods.

Yes, our honest day's pay paid for modest conveniences. I supported a family of 4 on less than $7/hour with family medical benefits. Today you expect a lot for very little. If you dial back your wants and meet only your needs, you'll find it more affordable.
