France to build 1000km of road with solar panels submitted by FreeSpeachRocks to technology

ty_dupp 0 points 7 points (+7|-0) ago

Interestingly, this project will not remove road surfaces but instead, the solar panels will be glued to the existing pavement.

Solar, Cement and Glue are best buds, eh? I'm betting Glue is about to stop hanging out when he gets a new girlfriend who goes by 'Tire Treads'.

France to build 1000km of road with solar panels submitted by FreeSpeachRocks to technology

I'm guessing that the decision was made on the basis of cost and time. Constructing a roof to me sounds extremely expensive; such a construction would require 1) the materials, 2) the labor, 3) possible maintenance (maybe limited, depending on structural design). Road surface maintenance is already scheduled annually, so from a quick layman's judgment you'd think they were trying to kill two birds with one stone, with the hopes that the installation could coincide with road repair efforts.

Scientists open the black box of schizophrenia with dramatic genetic discovery submitted by Maxcactus to science

In patients with schizophrenia, a variation in a single position in the DNA sequence marks too many synapses for removal and that pruning goes out of control. The result is an abnormal loss of gray matter.

It's pretty impressive that this aberration occurs as a result of a variation in a single position. It makes you wonder how many other maladies are a result of such a tiny change. It also gives one hope that it might be less difficult to find a cure since it is so specific, unless as noted earlier that it's a result of toxoplasmosis or some broader cause.

USA vs. USB submitted by NihilistsLivesMatter to funny

Dang, although I know the USB std, I was kinda hoping it might be an easy country that could improve soccer chances of Team USA in the World Cup... once can dream, I guess.

Netflix and Amazon are outbidding all the major movie studios at Sundance submitted by Jourdy288 to movies

ty_dupp 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

Do you think the studios would ever counterstrike by pulling their old content from either Netflix or Amazon? Could they pull start their own streaming service for a tiny fraction of what Netflix was charging? Or maybe some studios would bond together to form their own consortium... maybe that's what Hulu is. I don't know who holds the stock there; maybe it's the studios.
