If you don't believe in global warming, you are a climate change denier. If you don't believe in the Holocaust, you are a Holocaust denier. If you don't believe in God, aren't you a God denier? submitted by ThinkingApe to atheism

therationalchannel 1 points 8 points (+9|-1) ago

Yeah, the key difference here being there are very strong cases to be made for the holocaust and global warming. There isn't a strong case to be made for a existence of a god. So you aren't denying a large body of evidence as you would be in the other cases. You would be acknowledging the lack of evidence for the god claim.

It wasn't just asserted without reasoning. I am not sure what makes it adolescent.

"Police chief takes on atheist activists in epic showdown" Fox news submitted by therationalchannel to atheism

therationalchannel 0 points 4 points (+4|-0) ago

I 100% agree, there was literally nothing epic about it. It was just a guy who doesn't understand separation of church state and thinks "go fly a kite" is an adequate response for serious concerns regarding constitutional law. Additionally he didn't say much in the interview and was boring as fuck.

Haha, you got me. I am actually part of the conspiracy.
Regarding the begging the question, I am not sure as to why you would call it a fallacy. Could you provide some more details? Because discussing motivation and side effects of a proposed action is important to a lot of discussions. In such hypotheticals you assume the premise is true to envision motivations you aren't actually arguing the premise is true. For example the form is:
e.g Claiming X is true, Premise assuming X is true, conclusion X is true.
The form of the argument in the video. Claiming X isn't true. If X were true then Y and Z would occur, Y and Z are unfavourable and make the motivation non sensical, Conclusion X is not true.
The conclusion isn't the assumed in the premise, so as far as I am aware that wouldn't make it begging the question.

Believing in Things You Can't See; an Argument from a Muslim submitted by therationalchannel to atheism

I know, the original video was so stupid there is actually a poll on the response video asking if the video was a troll or not. Sadly I am pretty sure it isn't a troll and people actually are that stupid.
