Uh-oh, a robot just passed the self-awareness test submitted by chmod to news

theoceansinthestreet 0 points 105 points (+105|-0) ago

I'm confused. Isn't the "awareness" just programmed in. For instance, "IF internal speaker activated THEN "I know now who spoke!"."

I sort of doubt the researchers were sitting there talking offhand to their machines saying "hey, so only one of you can talk, which one is it?" and they suddenly wrote their own code for understanding the question and determining which one of them was speaking.

Maybe I'm just missing something

You're just describing a good relationship, not making an argument for marriage. Your relationship would exist with or without the marital contract.

The point is that many people could think the exact same thing you do! Until they get a high paying job and their wife suddenly has her "I want to fuck other people" phase. Things change. People change. Why take the risk?

TL;DR version of Pao's apology submitted by Kebab to gifs

I was genuinely surprised the top comment on the apology thread wasn't just "Not Accepted".

They're not suppressing it so much as not investing as heavily in it at this point and as a result, the technologies won't progress as quickly.

Just like all other technologies alternative/clean energy will have it's tipping point and a large part of that will be the oil monopolies' already invested $
