Kids are safer now than any time in history... but to be fair, it could be because we are more vigilant about their safety.

Not only are abductions down by 40%, but "only 0.1 percent of missing persons cases were what we'd think of as a "stereotypical kidnapping" -- where a complete stranger tries to abduct somebody and carry them off by force"

I thwarted several tiger attacks using my anti-tiger surveillance and disruption techniques on the Fourth of July...

how many tiger attacks were there on the Fourth this year? None.

He-goat = 1, Tigers = 0

Socialism is really different than what happened in the USSR (which was communism by the way, which was actually an oppressive dictatorship)...

Sweden and Norway are "socialist" in the sense of what Bernie's policies are calling for - I don't think that any of his policies cross the line of eliminating capitalism, just reducing inequality, and the amount of crony capitalism and unfairness in the marketplace (of which there is a LOT in the US).

For example, because the minimum wage is so low (below a living wage), workers for companies like Wal-Mart must use government assistance to survive. Without that government assistance, those workers wouldn't even be able to work at all at those wage levels, so in essence effectively the US taxpayer is subsidizing Wal-Mart's shareholder profits (through those assistance programs), even while those workers are barely scraping by and can't even afford any of the products in the store they work at. Most of the poor in the US are the working poor and most bankruptcies aren't people wildly spending, it's the working poor who run into a health problem or at least was a problem until Obamacare, a "socialist" program, solved a lot of the uncertainty of not being offered healthcare at work.

I heard a great podcast from a brilliant VC and billionaire, Nick Hanauer (first investor in Amazon among many personal successes). He cites the example of Seattle, where they have one of the highest minimum wages in the country and it has made their city into a vibrant commercial center. The cost is that some shareholders somewhere lost some profits, but overall the business environment has vastly improved because those workers are now able to participate in the economy, and purchase goods and services, and contribute more to local commerce.

I thought that his best comment was "Squeezing every last dime at the expense of poor people doesn't make you a good capitalist... it makes you a jerk."

Anyway, I think that capitalism and socialism can co-exist, but I see the current system as less capitalist than ever, as our system has gotten to be so rigged that people and corporations with money can change the rules to their favor and lock in monopoly like profits.

I'm actually pretty liberal and believe strongly in actively trying to reduce racism and sexism, but SJWs take it to the Harrison Bergeron extreme or they just turn the actual important issues into a joke by being hysterical/illogical and making it about themselves and their own failures in life.

That said, I don't care what a moderator thinks because they shouldn't be actively trying to sway opinion or intervening - they need to be impartial for the discussion to function well and if they can't even do that, then they shouldn't be a moderator
