FTC goes after a Kickstarter that didn't deliver. submitted by odinist to RPG

The feds might very well ruin Kickstarter. They can also make all the silly buggers who run to KS without an actual product, businessplan or mental coherence go away. I hope for the latter.

It seems like my reply got eaten by the last brown-out..

I don't think there that many genuinely silly buggers, but there are more than a few projects that are brainchilds of small teams, or single persons - vulnerable to real life and to being overwhelmed by the project - turning them into silly buggers. For every CaH there is Dwimmermount or CoC7. Or doomed Atlantic City.
Kickstarter has become a energizing pre-order service for the tabletop hobby - which is good. This development will hopefully make projects that ask for artwork/editing/printing/minis-funding of grounded projects the standard instead of "pay for my rent and noodles while I attempt to write down what's inside my head and try to figure of how things actually work"-funding.
Even then, things can go horribly wrong.

Considering getting into Tabletop RPGs, have no idea what games there is. Some recommendations? submitted by Fuvinatro to RPG

My favorite game of course!
What kind of game are you looking for? Something simple and pulpy or complex and gritty? Lord of the Rings or Star Trek? Splinter Cell or LEGO Batman? Tower of the Elephant or The Wind in the Willows?

So I wanna try a BRP-game. Why are there so many to choose from? submitted by the_voatman to BasicRolePlaying

It is pretty straightforward. The attributes, skillvalues and powerlevels are pretty much the same across all incarnations. Only when you go into the the details of charactergen, magic and combat will you be likely to encounter much differences. And even then, it is outweighed by the similarities.
Converting a Cthulhu-beastie over to RuneQuest, a heroic ability from MRQ over to BRP, or running a setting or scenario written for one system with another is real quick.

Figured I should at least get one subscriber before I posted here..

Not expecting this one to be wildly popular, but you never know. Hopefully it will be a peaceful co-existence with /v/rpg and /v/OSR
