Changing the face of coding... submitted by CervicalStrike to funny

theMETA 1 points 81 points (+82|-1) ago

This is in /v/funny, but I've always seen this as a serious issue.

Situations like this will drive programmers, like Chad here, away from this company. That'll make these "other programmers" look bad, because the company will not actually be programming anything... especially when compared to the company that Chad goes to, which will probably be filled with males who actually program, like Chad.

This is when Chad's old company cries sexism, forces Chad's new company to "diversify" their staff, and ends up driving Chad (and his co-workers) away, and perpetuating the cycle.

It's madness, and will destroy the ecosystem if it continues.

As valid as this point is, it's not funny, and it doesn't belong in this sub. You're using a high-traffic sub to get views on unrelated media, and that's tantamount to spam, in my book.

Do you think the United States should have mandatory military service? submitted by cannabidiol to AskVoat

theMETA 2 points -2 points (+0|-2) ago

Never did I say that I'd ELIMINATE adults in those jobs... nor did I say I'd ELIMINATE gangs...

What I DID say was that having military service will give everyone skills... job skills... which they learn through OJT, which will help them earn better jobs, which are more suitable for their age and lifelong goals. Even military service as a personnel technician will help you with data entry and paperwork routing.

Sure, there will be those who go back to being lazy, or go back to their gangs, but there will be more people who come out of highschool/service with applicable jobs. They'll actually have a bank account, which their First Shirt made them keep balanced, and they ultimately end up in a better position than they would have coming directly out of high school, into a gang or Burger King.

At least their gangs will have balanced bank accounts.

I brought up that it seemed HPOP posts were getting downvoated by bots, a few months ago, and it seems to have gotten worse and worse until they just stopped posting.

It always has been. There's even a bot (@derram) that rehosts links that are originally hosted on Imgur.

I saw a response, this morning, where he had done that, and someone responded with something along the lines of: if the post is funny, and from Imgur, you (derram) get the upvoat and the post gets a downvoat.
