Reddit board member says The attacks were worse on Ellen because she is a woman". Irish Times calls Ellen a victim and a "hero to many" submitted by MCVoat to news

She's probably a hero to the shareholders and the new CEO who she took the interim position for in order to make all these unpopular changes then step down when everything hit the fan. I mean, what was the last straw? Victoria being fired? How many other community liaisons have been fired in the last few months? I know the person in charge of redditgifts was let go, too, but no stink was made about it. It's almost like the whole backlash was constructed.

They wanted to get their changes in and make it feel like we won when we fought against them and demanded her resignation. She resigns, they bring in the new CEO who just happens to be someone who helped develop the site from square one, and everyone loves him and will be ever so understanding when he can't undo her policy changes. Or just forget about them when he introduces something new and flashy. It's no mistake all this happened on a Friday, either. It's only too bad they couldn't do it over July 4th.

Someone in my town bought a cake from Dairy Queen for father's day, here is what was advertised and what they got. submitted by pacman2000 to funny

Seems like they should have fired whoever was supposed to make the cake rather than the guy who was trying to cover for them. Unless, of course, they were one in the same.

I have always wondered this about the Christian Religion submitted by Khayrum117 to religion

When you look at religion as a concept and a system of faith rather than hard rules and writing on pages then it kind of makes more sense. People have faith in a higher power. For Christians it's God and His teachings are in the Bible, for Islam it's Allah and His are in the Quran, Hindus have Brahman and his infinite manifestations, and so on.

I personally believe that spirituality should not only fit with your culture, but it should also take into account the times in which you're living. I think this is why you will see so much variation, while at the heart of all of them there is still some belief in the divine and a set of guidelines to follow in order to ingratiate yourself to that power and thus lead a more blessed life.

The Greeks and Romans, of course, believed in many gods as did the Egyptians and countless others. They made the gods a part of their lives with gods representing many different aspects of those lives. Now some will say that part of this is due to them not having the knowledge to explain certain phenomena and thus they attributing them to a god, but that is a pretty short-sighted thing to say since many ancient cultures knew quite a lot about science and math and how the world worked.

I really feel like people need something to believe in sometimes. I am a Lutheran personally and I do believe there is a higher power out there. I can't say whether He is as we envision or if He goes by the moniker we've given we've given Him or whether He should even be considered a Him at all, but having organized religion allows for us to sort of give a name and a face to those feelings.

When you get into trouble is when people start using religion for their own means. Pushing agendas, using it as an excuse to go to war, interpreting texts to support their ingrained beliefs. As a Christian I believe that the Bible should grow with us, not keep us locked down to values set thousands of years ago. People using it to rally against gay marriage, mistreat women, or call other religions savage are kind of missing the point of the whole thing.

Anyway, I'm rambling and probably not making much sense and seriously considering just erasing all this to save me the heartache of the grilling I tend to get in these sorts of threads... but I've spent the time to type it out so just going to post it anyway. I hope at least a little of what I was trying to say makes sense. I'm finding my it difficult to really put words to my thoughts today for some reason.

91 Percent of Colleges Reported Zero Incidents of Rape in 2014 submitted by OhBlindOne to news

I'd be more apt to believe 9% of colleges reporting no rapes. That's a far more realistic number.

BioWare is closing their official forums submitted by qx9 to gaming

Yup, instead of just not buying the games I dislike I, too, wish for them to fail so nobody else can enjoy them.

Yup, it's a pretty toxic environment. I was kind of excited to have a reddit alternative and then saw how it was here and stopped coming. I only still visit because reddit is blocked while I'm at work and sometimes there is a decent post to be found here if I dig enough. The worst part is that these people seem to be actively trying to saturate the entire site with their hate. I've seen people say that you can block certain subverses and you don't see it, but I just don't see how when it's so prevalent everywhere.
