[Deleted on Reddit] Sneaky sneaky Microsoft, corporations never change. submitted by BustyChicksFTW to technology

  1. It's the browser, not the whole OS.
  2. Chrome does the exact same thing, and yet no one (aside from Firefox users) seems to be worried about that, because "I trust Google more than anyone else". (Fun fact: Google lives almost entirely off of advertising while Microsoft does not.)

I'm not saying you're wrong to be worried about this. For what it's worth, I usually turn this off myself. I'm saying that we shouldn't be alarmed that Microsoft has started doing this when nobody cares that Chrome has already been doing it for years.

Isn't this on by default in Chrome?

I just had a thought that belongs under a tinfoil hat that has its own tinfoil hat. What if the admins have spent months coming up with replacement mods, and they fired Victoria so that the default mods would rebel, which would give the admins an excuse to replace them?

Twitter and voat aren't really comparable.

Twitter has an entire infrastructure built around getting tweets out quickly. Voat has turned off the feature that checks mail because it takes too much bandwidth. Simply put, voat can't handle it.
